In 1997, the Illinois General Assembly passed a law that opened the supply of electricity in Illinois to competition. As of May 1, 2002, you are now able to choose your electricity provider. Even if you choose another company to provide your electricity, ComEd will continue to provide delivery services for your electricity.

The introduction of competition in other industries has resulted in more innovation, better prices and improved customer service.

It makes sense that ComEd supports Illinois law in bringing the benefits of competition to the Illinois electricity marketplace.

  • Customer Choice enables ComEd to focus on our number one priority -- the safe and reliable delivery of electricity to our customers.
  • Regardless of which electricity supplier you choose, you will still be a ComEd delivery services customer.
  • Customer choice has also provided ComEd and our parent company, Exelon, new opportunities to grow our business.
